I had to do a bit of research on this souvenir handkerchief printed 1937 Coronation. Because the woman looked SO MUCH like the young Queen Elizabeth I assumed it was for her coronation but that was in 1952 so I knew something was wrong. So glad I did the research! This hankie is from the 1937 coronation of King George VI and his wife Elizabeth! There’s such a striking resemblance between mother and daughter that I’m cutting myself slack on my mistake (that and being American).
Made of white cotton that’s printed with the monarch’s and his wife’s photos and the date 1937. The royal couple is surrounded by royal flags, banners and other essential symbols. Marked “British Made’ in the lower left corner. Very nice! Finished with a machine stitched hem all around.
Pre-owned, used; in good condition with no noted flaws. This was in a damaged frame when I got it; the back is a little sticky from a spray adhesive. The handkerchief itself is clean so didn’t attempt to wash it to remove the stickiness. I assume it will be framed again by another person that is fascinated by the royals.
Measures 10 1/2” x 9 1/2”
